Most Gold Coast timber jetty repairs cost $1,800-$18,000 in 2026
Small board and fixing repairs usually land at $1,800-$4,500. A serious re-deck, bearer repair or pile-cap job is more often $5,500-$18,000, and pile replacement can push a repair past $25,000. The fair price depends on how much structure is still sound below the pretty timber.
Real 2026 repair rates for Gold Coast canal jetties
Most homeowners first notice a soft board, a wobbly handrail or a rust stain around a bracket. The trap is assuming the visible part is the whole job. On canal estates from Paradise Point to Runaway Bay, salt air and splash-zone wetting usually damage fixings and concealed end grain before the top face of the deck looks bad.
| Repair item | Typical 2026 rate | What it includes |
|---|---|---|
| Call-out and low-tide inspection | $220-$480 | Travel, visual inspection, probing suspect timber, basic written findings. |
| Hardwood board replacement | $320-$560 per m² | Remove failed boards, supply F17 hardwood, 316 stainless screws. |
| Joist or bearer replacement | $180-$320 per linear m | Temporary support, cut-out, marine timber replacement, hardware. |
| Pile cap or head repair | $550-$1,450 each | Expose pile head, replace cap, refix bearer connections. |
| 316 stainless hardware upgrade | $45-$180 per fitting | Screws, bolts, brackets, washers or cleat fixings depending on load. |
| Short marine handrail repair | $650-$1,400 per m | Posts, rail, fixings and tie-in to existing structure. |
| Barge access allowance | $1,200-$3,800 | Small barge or water access where street and side access are poor. |
These are defensible site rates, not fixed offers. A repair quote still needs the deck lifted in the right places and the piles checked at low tide.
The four variables that move the price most
First, how much framing is wet or rotten. Replacing loose boards is quick. Replacing the joists below them means taking up good boards as well as bad boards, temporarily supporting the deck, and reworking connections. That is why two jetties with the same visible damage can be $3,000 apart.
Second, whether piles are sound. A pile that is firm, straight and not badly wasted can often stay. A pile with marine-borer attack, movement at the mudline, or crushed timber at the head changes the job from carpentry to structural marine work. At that point we usually suggest a structural assessment before spending repair money.
Third, access. A clear side path in Mermaid Waters is very different from a Sovereign Islands site where materials need to move by water or through tight landscaping. Access changes labour hours, waste handling and whether work has to be staged around tides.
Fourth, the hardware specification. In sheltered dry framing, hot-dip galvanised hardware can be acceptable for some components. In splash zones and visible deck fixings, 316 stainless is usually the better default. It costs more on day one, but cheap fixings can stain new boards and fail before the timber does.
There are also jobs we will talk you out of. If one or two boards have lifted because screws have backed out, and the boards are still firm, a homeowner may be able to refix them with correct marine screws after checking there is no hidden rot. If the jetty is only used for occasional fishing and the handrail is sound, you may not need a cosmetic re-deck this year. Spend the money where it changes safety or life span.

Send photos of the deck, pile heads and waterline. We will tell you whether it looks like repair, rebuild or inspection first.
Worked example: a typical Paradise Point re-deck and bearer repair
A common job is a 7 m by 1.8 m private canal jetty with soft boards along the outer edge, two bearer ends showing rot, and old mixed fixings. The usable deck area is 12.6 m², but the repair area is priced as 15 m² because boards need to be lifted beyond the obvious damage.
| Line item | Calculation | Typical amount |
|---|---|---|
| F17 hardwood re-deck | 15 m² at $420 per m² | $6,300 |
| Bearer and joist repairs | 9 linear m at $240 per m | $2,160 |
| 316 stainless hardware | Allow for screws, bolts, washers and brackets | $1,250 |
| Waste removal | Cut, carry and dispose of failed timber | $680 |
| Low-tide pile notes | Probe accessible piles while deck is open | $420 |
| Total | Before any approval or engineer requirement | $10,810 |
That job is worth doing if the piles pass probing and the deck line is still true. If two or three piles also need replacement, the same owner should compare this repair against a staged full jetty rebuild. A cheap patch that hides bad piles is not a saving. It makes the next buyer, insurer or certifier ask harder questions.
Insurance work is different again. If the repair follows storm or impact damage, document the site before pulling timber off. The storm damage and insurance guide explains why photographs, tide timing and cause of failure matter. Insurers often want a clear separation between sudden damage and gradual deterioration.
